Not sure how to measure?

Wrap a soft measuring tape around the widest part of your child’s head — just above the eyebrows and ears.

What do the filters mean?

Anti-rotation system â€” Technologies like MIPS, Kenticore, and DVRT are designed to reduce rotational force on the brain during an angled impact. We recommend prioritizing this feature for most riders.

Dual certified â€” Helmets certified to both CPSC (bike) and ASTM (skate/snow) standards. A good choice if your child skates, scoots, or snowboards as well as bikes.

E-bike certified — E-bikes reach higher speeds than traditional bikes, requiring a higher impact standard (NTA 8776). If your child rides an e-bike, this filter matters.

High ventilation â€” Helmets scored 4 or 5 out of 5 in our ventilation testing. Worth prioritizing for kids who ride in warm weather or resist wearing their helmet.

Finder Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the same helmet appear more than once?

Some helmets come in multiple sizes with different head circumference ranges. Each size is listed separately so the finder can match your child’s exact measurement to the right one.

What does “Our Score” mean?

Every helmet in our database has been evaluated using our 50-point rubric, which scores sizing and fit, ventilation, safety features, comfort, and construction quality. Higher scores reflect better overall performance across all categories — not just one feature. The full rubric breakdown for each helmet can be found on our Best Kids Bike Helmets and Best Bike Helmets for Babies and Toddlers pages.

Can I filter by color?

Since colorways change frequently, we haven’t included them as a filter option. The finder focuses on fit and features — once you’ve found the right helmet, visit the retailer link on the card to browse all available colors.

Should I size up or down if my child is between sizes?

Size down. A helmet that’s slightly snug is safer and easier to adjust than one that’s too large. See our sizing guide → for more detail.
